BONES: 4.08 – The Skull in the Sclpture – Recap

Posted in Bones on November 6, 2008 by awsumdave

Bones LogoBones is back after a short hiatus, and boy am I glad.  I’m sorry I have been slacking on my recaps, but unfortunatley I have no other reason for that other than I am lazy.  So hopefully you’ll be able to forgive me as I write this recap.

Recently, I have been watching all the Buffy and Angel series, so unfortunetly whenever I see Booth in “Bones”, all I end up seeing is Angel most the time, which take away from the viewing experience.  Even though his character is quite different from Angel, its hard not to think of the role that he played for seven years that initially made him famous.

So two guys stumble into what looks like a junk yard, but is apparently some kind of strange museum of art. When I say art, I mean trash compacted cars, just…blocks of metal if you will.  Well, the end up conveniantly stumbling upon a crushed car that had a crushed human being inside.

75118_bones_-_ep_4the_skull_in_the_sculpture7_cu_isa_002_122_528lo

When our favorite team was examining the car, Angela approached Hodgins, and asked if he was seeing anyone else yet.  He wasn’t, but neither was she, but she said she was ready to.  Their relationship bugs me. Right from the beginning of this season, they had it right last season, but they had to go and ruin it.

002

Booth and Bones checked out who the piece of junk, I mean art belonged to. Apparently all the crushed cars were pieces of art that belonged to a man named Jeffrey.  When they told her they found Jeffrey crushed in the car, she just saw that as amazing.  Proving that he is a true artist… Apparently the man was suicidal, and he wanted to go out artistically.  Roxie, Jeffrey’s assistant told Booth and Bones that he had a rival, and off they went to meet with him.

So back at the lab, Hodgins was just about to pry open the car, when Caroline stopped him.  Apparently, Helen, the woman from before, spoke to a judge about the car being a historic piece of art, and didn’t want it disturbed in any way.  So they can still observe it, but cannot disturb it, but thats only temporate.

When Booth and Bones met up with Jeffrey’s rival, he told them that he did in fact dislike Jeffrey. But he told the two that they really should be talking to his assistant, Roxie, whome he left all his money to in his will.

At the lab, they were still trying to examine the car without disturbing the art.  Bones decided that was the time to “accidentally” dump a bunch of flesh eating beatles into the car.  Lol, brilliant. She asked if she was fired, but Camille just said, “Au Contrare, remind me of this when Christmas raise comes along.”

So, Booth and Roxie were in the questioning room.  Sweets was telling Booth what to ask, but he was completely ignored like always. Booth asked if she and Jeffrey were seeing each other, but she said they weren’t.  Then he asked if they weren’t intimate, why would he leave everything to her? She was surprised, and then asked Booth if Angela didn’t tell him.  Apparently Roxie here is into girls, and has never been with a man.

75237_bones_-_ep_74the_skull_in_the_sculpture78_cu_isa_003_122_1055lo

When confronted, Angela said that Roxie was in fact gay, and that she knew first hand, because they had a relationship for over a year.  Caroline stomped into the Lab, angry as a bear.  Apparently she found out about the accidental slip of flesh-eating beatles, and told the team the judge gave them only two days to find out if there was foul play.

Angela, the artistic one of the team, came up with another Star Trek device that can recreate the entire crushing of the car, and prove that it was suicide.  Well she did, and guess what, it was murder.  So the team was able to finally examin the car, and they opened it up.  Unfortunatley, the skull was broken, so Bones had to re-assemble it. When she was finished putting together all the puzzle pieces, she made the assumption that a fire ax was the murder weapon.

001

With new evidence, they found out that Jeffrey was killed in the studio.  Apparently, he was rolled, not dragged to a car, which meant someone without the strength had to roll him.  They asked the woman from before, Helen, what she was doing that night.  She said watching TV. Later on, the team found evidence of cancer treatment, it couldn’t have been Roxie, because it causes skin discoloration.  So they asked Helen to take off her make-up.  True enough, she was the killer.  She wanted to make it look more valuable, so she could spend the money on medical treatments.

Roxie and Angela meet up and kiss.

Sweets and Daisy meet up, and he fires her and they kiss. Then at the very end, there was a very subtle hint at the romantic interest Bones and Booth share for each other.  Man that frustrates me. I really don’t know if they’ll ever get together.

BONES: 4.07 – The He in the She – Recap

Posted in Bones on October 8, 2008 by awsumdave

This week’s episode of Bones started off with two stoned teenagers finding a dead body in the water while they were fishing.  The body was cut in half, but the team was able to find out that the victim was female, based off the fact she was wearing a female bathing suit when she died.  She was cut in half, but that didn’t mean she was murdered, but since her fingers were smashed in, she was. We learn later that she is really a he but not anymore…..I’ll get to that a little later.

Our new replacement of the week for Zach goes to a Mr. Nigel Murray.  I actually liked last week’s replacement, but alas, I guess he was a little too depressed to work at the Jeffersonian. Everyone calls him Mr. Nigel because it makes him sound duller than a Dr. Nigel.  And no offense, but he is kind of dumb.  He doesn’t catch a whole lot of things when doing his job.  At the end of the episode he quits, I guessed he would, but that’s not important, I just wanted to get it out of the way.

With careful investigation, Booth and Bones found out who the victim was, a woman named Patricia.  They went to her house and scoped it out.  It turned out that she worked at a church.  Booth took that time to judge her, because he didn’t think she was right for having plastic surgery and be a pastor for some reason. They than found a message on her answering machine from a man named J.P.  Booth got a call that they found the second half of the body. From the second half, they found out the victim used to be a man.

Bones and Booth visited Patricia’s funeral.  The church she worked for was a church for people in need to go to that have had a bad past and have been judged before. At the funeral they met J.P. and brought him in for questioning.  The man developed feelings for Patricia even though he knew she used to be a man.  He didn’t do it.

At the Jeffersonian, Angela drew up a sketch of what she thought Patricia might have looked like if she were a man.  Everyone in the group recognized him as a famous pastor, Patrick Stevenson. Before he had his operation, Patrick had a wife and son. They interviewed his wife, who seemed dead set against the operation.  My guess at this point was she was the one who did it.  She said her son was in California, so he couldn’t have done it.  Though he is played by Simon from 7th Heaven.  A well-known actor, so he might have a bigger role than I think…idk.

Of course Simon was a pastor, took over his father’s job.  Can’t get yourself out of that role, can you Simon? Booth had a chat with him, and Simon said he wish he knew his father after he had the operation.  He was still acting as a man of faith, even though he didn’t really look it.  He didn’t do it, and that leaves me still with my guess.  The mother. Dun dun dun!

At the end, they found the murder weapon, which was a boat.  The boat belonged to J.P. from before.  Though it wasn’t him that did it.  His wife found out about his feelings for Patricia, and killed her.  That was totally unexpected.  I didn’t even know the man was married…  Oh well.  At the end, Simon re-took his place as pastor.  He was the pastor of his father’s new church, and that’s how the episode ended. Speaking of fathers, we get to see Bones’s father next week…I can’t wait! Peace out!

BONES: 4.06 – The Crank in the Shaft – Recap

Posted in Bones on October 1, 2008 by awsumdave

Hodgins – What’s the cause of death?

New Guy – Life.

Last week on Bones, Zach came back for a brief guest appearance.  I was sad to not see him again this week, but my faith in the show was restored after last week.  This week was an alright episode, nothing seriously important, just an average episode.

So here’s what basically happens; A group of people walk into an elevator, it drops a few stories, and fixes itself.  When the elevator stopped, a woman’s leg fell out of the elevator’s ceiling, so off the team went to investigate.  It seemed there were several body parts completely smeared through the entire elevator shaft. NASTY!

Turns out the body belonged to an office worker, and was killed with a stapler!  Well, she had an anurism, and the blow to the head was a kill shot, much like David and Goliath.  Most the people she worked with had intent to kill, but all of them said they didn’t do it….shocker.  In fact it was really more of an accident than actual murder.  The real crime was pushing an elevator shaft open, and dumping a body…….ew.

That was basically what happened, now there was also an overal story line for you soap-opera lovers.  Angela and Hodgins are having that after break-up tension that everyone has to deal with now and then.  Angela goes around asking everyone for advice, Bones said since they are good friends she could fire Hodgins for her.  Lol, Bones, and her absolute lack of people skills.  Sweets wanted to have a ruitine schedule to talk about it in detail, but Angela really didn’t want to do that.

Again, for the sixth time in a row, there was a new replacement for my favorite character, Zach.  This one….I actually like a lot.  He is no Zach, but he, along with everyone else in the show has a very colorful character, and that’s one of the main things in the show I actually like.  Apparently this guy is suicidal, and hates his own life, for no apparent reason, I guess, but he is incredibly smart.  He also has nice comebacks. See the title quote.

Not the best episode in the world, just average.  See you guys next week, peace out!

BONES: 4.05 -The Perfect Pieces in the Purple Pond Recap

Posted in Bones on September 24, 2008 by awsumdave

Yes! A new episode of Bones just aired, and so far, this is no doubt, the best episode of the season…so far. Tons of things happen, so let’s get started:

This episode started off showing us a young couple hiding in an abandoned warehouse doing what teenagers do best.  But suddenly, the boy’s urge to urinate overcame him, so…instead of searching for a restroom, he ran outside to a small pond-like thing, and peed in that.  Suddenly the water he was relieving himself in, turned PURPLE and body parts started rising to the surface.  Except….the head.

Here we go guys, ZACH is back!  Sweets is seen talking to Zach in the mental hospital where he currently resides in.  It made me miss him so much more.  Sweets said he can help him get out, but for some reason, since Zach is so persistant, he thinks what he’s doing is the right thing.

Back at the Jeffersonian, Hodgins is still upset over everything.  Over the fact that his marriage was cancelled, and he was broken up with, and everything with Zach.

The team was able to find out that the victim had a mental disability, OCD.  He had a ton of childish things all neatly lined up.  Monk would be proud.  They also found out that he had a thing for older ladies.  So they set out to find the woman he was seeing, who was almost 30 years older than him………………yeah.  When they questioned her, nothing seemed out of the ordinary, but….it was weird.

Hodgins gave Zach a visit at the hospital.  This was a truly emotional scene.  Even if it wasn’t meant to be. He handed a notecard with a tough mathmatic equation on it.  Of course he figured it out quickly and announced that he was king of the looney bin.  Hodgins gave him that one.  Zach said he found out about Angela and him splitting, and said he felt sorry for him, to have to go through all that trouble.  Hodgins thought that was silly, cause Zach was the one in the hospital.  This was a great scene of friendship.  I loved it.

Since the victim had a case of OCD, Booth and Bones visited an OCD recovery class where the students were rubbing mud all over their bodies, and freaking out.  They pulled him aside to question him.  Their studies proved that the victim had recently gotten into a fight with someone, and this professor had a black eye.  He said it was because of another patient that had a bad reaction to a test.  Just then, one of his students came in and confessed to killing the victim.

They questioned the student, but he said he never cut the body up after he killed him, so it obviously couldn’t be him.  He said they went out to coffee that afternoon, so out Booth and Bones went to question the manager of a local coffee shop. He said they had an argument the day before, but they made amends.

Wendall, yet another new replacement for Zach, went to ask Angela a question.  He asked if Zach was Brennan’s “boy toy” Angela laughed at that.  He asked because Bones asked him a question if he ever had a relationship with an older woman (related to the case) he just took it the wrong way.  Also, he revealed that he owes money, so he needs to keep the job.  He was just worried that he might have to do something he didn’t want to.

So Angela takes this matter to Sweets.  She explanes that he thought Bones hit on him, but she didn’t.  Sweets was nice enough to let her know that the case they are working on had to do with an age difference, which is why Bones asked him that question.  When she brought up that he owes money, he just said thats not his area of expertise. Angela went back to headquarters and confronted him, and explained everything.  He also explained that he never owed money to a mob, he owed money to the people in his town.

Finally, Booth and Bones found the location of the murder.  A greenhouse that grew plants that made coffee grounds.  The man that worked there was the son of the woman the victim was seeing.  Turns out he went there to ask the man for his blessing.  He never gave the blessing cause he didn’t want a father-in-law that was 10 years younger than himself. They found a pink substance, and brought him in.

Still trying to figure everything out.  The team couldn’t find the darn head, but then Zach showed up, out of the blue, complete in his psycho uniform.  They all gave him hugs, turns out he is there to help them find that head.  [He stole Sweets ID to get out.]  Zach explained that everything about the victim’s death had to do with the number 12, but he had proof the victim didn’t care about that number, his MOTHER did, who also had OCD.  So the mother killed her son, and laid out 12 pieces of his body, the head was the 13th, which she didn’t like, so she hid under a bird house.

So the team took Zach out to dinner, and they all had a ball, then Zach told everyone he had to get back.  They pulled some strings, LIED, and made it look like Zach never left.  Before Zach returned though………..he told something in secrecy to Sweets….HE’S INNOCENT!! YES!!  I feel so good now!  They completely thwarted the fact that they jumped the shark last season, but he revealed that he never killed anyone.  Sweets wanted to tell everyone, but Zach told him to keep his mouth shut.  OH MAN, I’m so excited now.  Can’t wait till next week!

BONES: Season 4 – So far….

Posted in Bones on September 24, 2008 by awsumdave

Alright, after Bones jumped the shark last season’s finale, it’s back!  Today, I finished up the four episodes of season four that have already aired.  Here’s my quick reflections on each episode:

4×01/02: Yanks in the UK

The fourth season opener took place mainly in London, when Bones was asked to speak at Scotland Yard.  Being Bones, bad things were bound to happen, so she found herself investigating a murder.  Also, this was a two hour premier, so she wound up investigating…..two…….murders.  Also, Angela’s husband guest appears on this episode, to which she asks him to sign the divorce papers.

This episode was extremely boring.  At least I thought so.  If it wasn’t boring enough for the first hour, they thought it might be cool to make a 2 hour premiere, like others do, so it was stretched out way too much.  Also after making us watch the entire episode, Angela and Hodgins break up! This was the one relationship I actually enjoyed, and they took it away from me.  Enough of that episode, onto the next:

4×03: Man in the Outhouse

This episode was primarily about cheating.  It resembled a TV show called “Cheaters” in real life, while in this episode of Bones, it was called “Busted by Bill” or something.  Bones is dating two guys at the same time, she said it is because one’s good with conversation, while the other is good with the physical side of the relationship.

This episode was way better than the premiere.  It had it’s usual feel for an episode of Bones, and even had a little romantic tension between Bones and Booth at the end.  Just an average episode, but very refreshing after the premiere.

4×04: The Finger in the Nest

While out at the park with his son, Parker, Booth called in a finger found in a bird’s nest.  So then he had to get Bones help to find the rest of the body, and when they do, they found out that the killer was a dog.  But the dog was used as a weapon.  Also, Booth’s son is having trouble with a girl at school, and Hodgins is having some pretty big problems at work.

Again, another average episode of Bones.  I don’t really expect much more to tell you the truth.  This is what Bones is.  Though I do want to see another overall plot arc mentioned, so we have something to look forward to.  I don’t think the dog whisperer was necessary for this episode.  I thought that was just ridiculous.  What I really liked about this episode, was Hodgin’s acting this episode.  Dealing with the loss of his friend, and fiance is obviously getting to him.  We’ll have to see where that goes on tonight’s episode! Until then, peace out!

TV REWIND: Bones – Season 3

Posted in Bones on September 24, 2008 by awsumdave

Right now, I want to scream at the top of my lungs, “WHAT THE CRAP, WHAT THE CRAP, WHAT THE CRAP!!!!!!!” But I’ll get to that in just a hot second.

I just finished the 3rd season today.  A new episode of Bones airs tonight, so I will try to get completely caught up so I can start doing full recaps, but for now, I’ll talk about the third season.  The third season revolved mostly around a cannibal cult thats been around for….let’s just say a long long time.  Also, the season was about Brennan’s father in jail, and the murder trial towards the end of the season.

That’s it, I can’t stand it anymore, I’m skipping to the end.  Apparently, this cult of cannibals hands down it’s traditions of a master and apprentice.  The master eats people, and creates a full skeleton from the bones left behind from several people.  They always have an apprentice to teach their ways.  So not only were they looking for the master cannibal, Gormagon, but also, his apprentice.  Earlier on in the season, they caught his apprentice, which means he needed a new apprentice.

In the season finale, we learned that either Gormagon, or his apprentice worked in the Jeffersonian.  From the beginning of the season, I thought it was Sweets, cause he just looked creepy to me.  That was even a growing theory in the episode.  Also, Hodgins was a theory as well, and to add to the hilarity, they made him act shady and creepy.  I wasn’t convinced.  But then we learned who was behind everything.  The apprentice of Gormagon was none other than……….ZACH.  WHAT THE CRAP, WHAT THE CRAP, WHAT THE CRAP!!!!

Their story doesn’t even add up!  Whoever worked in the Jeffersonian had to steal the skeleton in the basement, Zach was in the hospital the entire time!  And I love Zach!  How could he be a cannibal?  Well, fortunately later in the episode, we learn that Zach never ate anybody, but he did kill someone, which is completly unbelievable!  How can the show survive without Zach adding his wit to the show?

Ugggg, I am frustrated with the show right now, but….I can’t abandon Bones.  I should be able to catch up on Season 4 by tomorrow, and have a recap ready for the all-new episode after it airs. Sigh..such a shame…

TV REWIND: Bones – Season 2

Posted in Bones on September 21, 2008 by awsumdave

I just got finished with the second season of Bones, and might I say that they still got it.  One way of judging something is to list it’s pros and cons, as many people know, and I have to say that the only con I saw this season was Bones never said her signature line “I don’t know what that means.”

Again, this season didn’t have too big of an overall arc.  It did however have a recurring theme of trying to catch the serial killer Howard Eps, who had an amazing acting ability.  His way of riddles and mind games made his character terrifying, but we loved him anyways.  Also the season had the family issue.  Brennan’s father, who made several guest appearances this season, always getting away from federal grasp.

As for the romantic interests provided this season, well lets just say they were distastful for the most part.  Booth dated Cam, Brennan dated Sully, it was all just a mess, for none of the pairings had any noticible chemistry. However Angela and Hodgins got romatically involved, and even set up a wedding for the series finale.  I liked that relationship.

I guess the relationship between Bones and Booth will have to wait for a future episode.  Until next week, peace out!

Below are my reviews on the following episodes on TV.com:

2×09: Aliens in a Spaceship (my favorite episode so far in the series.)

2×14: The Man in the Mansion

2×15: Bodies in the Book

2×16: The Boneless Bride in the River

TV REWIND: Bones – Season 1

Posted in Bones on September 15, 2008 by awsumdave

If there is one thing I love, its the increasing popularity of television series these days.  I’m always open-minded when it comes to different shows.  Always in the mood to start watching something new and exciting, and Bones is definitely something new and exciting.

Although I am only starting this series, I am hooked, and I am positive that it will only be a couple more weeks until I am caught up in the series.  Season one wasn’t about an overall arc as it was about introducing the characters.

The characters were incredibly colorful and amazing.  Each and every actor in “Bones” knew what they were doing, and they carried out their performance wonderfully.  Especially Emily Deschanel.  Emily outdid herself with her character Temperance “Bones” Brennen.  She was able to get us, the viewer, to relate to her in an incredible way.

Bones is about a lonely and cynical forensic anthropologist solving crimes by looking at the physical traits accompanied by murder in the human skeleton.  And man, is she a genius at what she does.  While there wasn’t much of an overall arc, the story did get more interesting until the very end of the season with the breathtaking season finale’s cliffhanger.

Emily isn’t the only one with an incredible acting ability in this show.  Everyone else in this show is great as well. Of course, there is David Boreanaz as Agent Seeley Booth.  He puts on an incredible performance. T.J. Thyne as Hodgins and Eric Millegan as Zack Addy also have truly amazing characters who add so much to the show.

The show gave itself some originality when they gave the characters their key traits.  Like Brennen, whenever a character would mention a scene of a popular movie, she would always say “I don’t get what that means,” but she would always know the scenes of an unknown film.

The show really explores it’s potential this season, and I have no doubt in my mind that it will only get better as it progresses.  It has it’s funny episodes, but it also has it’s fair share of sad episodes that truly leave you feeling for the characters, especially Temperance.  There has been episodes where the others go through a tough time, but none of them compare to what Temperance goes through everyday regarding her parents.

I never saw this show when it originally aired. After watching this first season, I have to be honest, I’m a little upset at myself.  This is actually a very well done show that deserves it’s viewers.  Well, I’m off to watching season 2, I’ll catch you next week, peace out.
